Sixaxis to be Discontinued

Rumble is the Future

by Coop

As reported earlier today, the Dualshock 3 will be releasing next week, replacing the previous Playstation 3 controller – the Sixaxis. After years of explaining that the Playstation 3 was, well, “above” rumble, Sony has now thrown in the towel when it comes to this argument. This will soon not only be the only logical choice for anyone looking to buy a controller, but the only choice.

The MTV blog has confirmed that the “Sixaxis will no longer be offered after it’s completely sold through at retail (likely by the summer timeframe)” based on talks with Sony. This is one of the first times I can think of that a company completely replacing a system’s controller with a new one, with the only other time being the original Xbox. I am happy that this is going down, finally, and Sony can now say they are back where Nintendo was in 1996.
