Spielberg’s Bloom Blox Trailer
Box Blasting to the Wii
by Coop
As reported on Gamervision a few months ago, Steven Spielberg signed a deal with EA Games to develop video games for next generation consoles. One title would be for the Xbox 360 and PS3, focusing on a plot involving a strange alien and a story that is meant to envoke emotion. The other was to be made for the Wii and based off of Jenga. Guess which game this trailer is for:
The game is Bloom Blox and looks like Elebits meets Jenga meets LittleBigPlanet. Creating interesting puzzles and levels to mess around with physics in was one of the highlights of the unfortunately unpopular Elebits, but hopefully with EA’s backing, this one can take off. Seeing as Nintendo now finally has an online plan that seems to be becoming easier to use for developers there might even be some level trading components, but that is just speculation.
I really like the style, too. I have to give kudos to EA for giving Spielberg’s ideas the development staff they deserve. Graphically, the game looks fantastically slick with fairly high-resolution textures and not a jaggie in sight. There wasn’t any frame rate drops during even the biggest explosions in the footage. Now, we all know that it could be video editing magic, but only time will tell.
