Star Ocean: The Last Hope International PS3-Bound

With Graphix!!!!!

by Coop

Star Ocean: The Last Hope International
has been announced today, bringing the previously Xbox 360 exclusive RPG to the PlayStation 3. Yesterday, it was reported that this was to be a Japanese-only thing, but apparently Square Enix heard the outcry and decided it was worth following up in America as well. Missing the holiday season by just a few minutes, it's due out on February 11th, which should give everyone time to set aside a few days for the massive RPG.

In a press release sent out today (and posted below), Square Enix said that they plan on taking advantage of the Blu Ray's expanded space with multiple language tracks and the promise that Star Ocean is "now featuring amazing graphics through Blu-ray Disc" because the Xbox 360 version was an ugly whore.

STORY

The year is A.D. 2087. In the aftermath of World War III, Earth has been ravaged and the population decimated by a deteriorating environment. The countries that survived have joined together to form the Greater Unified Nations and turned their eyes skyward…to space.

Edge Maverick and his childhood friend Reimi Saionji are chosen as pioneer members of the Space Reconnaissance Force, which was created to seek out new worlds beyond the stars. Their ship, the Calnus, takes its place on the lunar launch pad along with four other starships of the first reconnaissance fleet. These ships – humanity’s last hope – blast off one-by-one and sail into the awaiting wormhole that leads to the vast star ocean.

And so, Edge and his crew begin their voyage in search of a new haven for humanity...and a second chance.

I wouldn't say the 360 version was an "ugly whore", but it did have some freezing issues that I hope are fixed for the PS3 version. Also, though I've never had an issue swapping discs with any game before, the fact that Star Ocean makes you go back and forth between them at the end depending on what area of the world you travel to is definitely inconvenient. Assuming these issues are fixed, the PS3 version will definitely be superior to 360, giving fanboys something to be happy about.
