StarCraft II Single Player to be Released as a Trilogy
Yeah. Wait, what?
by Coop
In what appears to be a move to grab a handful of money and cackle, Blizzard has announced that Starcraft II's campaign mode will be separated into a trilogy, with each chapter being based on a different race. Here are the three separate sections:
- Terrans - Wings of Liberty
- Zerg - Heart of the Swarm
- Protoss - Legacy of the Void
They didn't give a release date or information on when these will be released, but did confirm that they would be seperate games, and players will need to purchase all three of them to complete the single player saga. If each part isn't as long as the original Starcraft's story mode I expect to see a revolt, because splitting the single player campaign into three separate SKUs could be one of the most detestable moves in the company's history. If they are released months or, more likely, years apart, I can understand it, but if released at full price within months of each other I call bravo sierra on the entire operation. They aren't even continuations of each other, but separate titles ending in the same way, according to Kotaku. What does everyone think of this? I'm more than a little skeptical, leaning towards angry.

I'm more than a little angry, leaning towards skeptical...
intresting, i love the idea as blizzard will be able to develope great stories for all three races. And since it's Blizzard itll they should be great, After hearing this I may wait until the starcraft 2 battle chest comes out.
Well considering it's Blizzard they might release them really slow and steady.Gonna buy all 3 anyways!
Great. Next we will hear multiplayer won't be available at launch either. You know, fuck. This is dumb.
It's a great way for them to recoup development expenses, but it's lame for the gamer. Since I'm only going to be playing multiplayer anyway, it won't bother me much personally.
I hope that all 3 versions have complete multiplayer. I'm sure they do, but it would be a dick move if they didn't... I will buy all 3 regardless. Blizzard fanboy 'till the end!
It's blizzard, so Im sure that they are not looking to screw over their fans by releasing 3 separate "add-on" sized single player campaigns.
I think you're looking at 3 full sized games that all focus primarily on each faction. You can bet that Blizzard is not in this business just to make money. They're one of the only companies that releases each game they make on both Mac and PC, which is (unfortunately for mac users) not an industry standard for other companies.
The only crappy part is that those who are Protoss fans, will have to wait a little while to play their favorite race, assuming that order in the article was the release order. All in all the game is going to be amazing either way.
