Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty Dated for '09?

Maybe 2109...

by Coop

It's possible that splitting its Starcraft II baby into three parts might be exactly what Blizzard needed to do to hit their release date, as Gamestop has just moved Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty to a more solid date of November 4th, 2009.

Usually, for those not well versed in retail, games are given ambiguous dates when there's no confirmed release window. December 31, 2009, for instance, would mean it will likely be out in 2010, whereas December 1st, 2009 would mean a December release is likely. In this case, moving it to an actual day means they had some reason to move it, and while I'm usually the first to doubt any Blizzard date, it looks like the mighty GS computer knows more than I do.

There's still no date for the other two parts of Starcraft II, Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void, but I'd expect some word come either E3, Blizzcon, or a conference call where Bobby Kotick forgets about secrecy and blurts them out.

I love that developers try so hard to make date announcements big news, and then someone like GameStop comes along and takes away all their thunder.
