Tecmo Koei Asks Sony to Cut PS3 Price

Echoes Activision's Concerns, Not Threats

by Coop

The PlayStation 3 is the most expensive of the current generation of systems. Sure, you could argue that the Blu Ray player, wireless controller and hard drive all bring up the value, but that doesn't negate the actual cost. A few weeks back, Activision's Bobby Kotick said that if Sony doesn't cut the price (to spur some momentum) the company might cut PS3 support, and now Tecmo Koei is repeating the concerns. They aren't, however, making completely empty threats.

CEO Kenji Matsubara told CVG during an interview that "Whenever I discuss this with Sony reps I always ask them: 'Please cut the price', but I don't have a clear view on Sony's situation." It's common to hear people bitching about a system's price on a forum, but the fact that CEOs are beginning to join in on the flame war is a bit unsettling. Odds are Sony is already planning a cut, ramblings of businessmen aside, but this might light a fire under their asses. While they can afford to have "Random Xbox Fanboy 2341" complain about their cost on the Official Xbox forum, they could do without those statements being repeated in an official sense.

What about you? Think it's time for a price cut?

Sitting on a shelf next to an XBox360, it looks like it needs a price cut. But sitting in my living room for the past 8 months, it's more than proven why it is the most expensive system. It's become so much more than a video game console in my home. It's probably the best bluray player on the market at that price point, plus it's obviously an amazing game system, can store and play all the music and movies I want on the HDD that was extremely simple to swap out...and it has some other cool stuff like the photo book thing, Home (not my taste), internet browser, free online play, 100s of free demos in the PS Store, wifi support, video/voice chat...do I need to go on?

Sure it's probably time for a price cut based on the fact it's been priced so high for so long, but it's easily worth its price tag IMO.
