The Last HD DVD Player Update

It Doesn’t Add BluRay Support

by Coop

HD DVD is dead, and the winner of the format war is Sony with their Blu-ray player. This fact, while sad to some people, is indeed a fact and even the staunchest proponents of HD have laid down their swords and accepted defeat. Toshiba has phoned it in, "V B" day has passed, and retailers are stocking their shelves with Bluray players and giving anyone who purchased an HD DVD drive a pat on the back and a check for their dignity.

Even so, the Xbox 360 HD DVD player has just received an update that shouldn’t do much to change the already lost war. Citing "additional support for network features," the small update can be downloaded on Xbox 360 consoles to support their paper weight/door blocker/cutting board. It doesn’t allow for the player to fix the red-ring-of-death or give it Bluray support, it just adds network features to a network that is already down. Poor Toshiba, it’s like they don’t even know the war is over.
