VGA08: Dante's Inferno Announced
It's Based on a Book
by Coop
This has been one of those rumors that has refused to die, and there is apparently a good reason for that - someone is adapting Dante's Inferno into a videogame. No idea who is doing it (rumor is EA), no idea what system it will be for (odds are 360 and PS3), and no idea when it will be out (my guess is 2009), but it looks to be an action game from the trailer, which didn't really show much. I'd prefer an RPG, but an action/rpg will work, I suppose.
I can't wait to hear what they have planned for this, and it will give me an excuse to finally reread Alighieri's Divine Comedy. It's like when I said I would read Atlas Shrugged, except this time I might do it.
The trailer isn't up on the interwebs yet, but we'll get it up as soon as it finds its way into the tubes.

I thought this sounded interesting when the rumors first hit, now I'm not really sure what to make of it.
As someone who deeply loves Inferno and the entire Divine Comedy, I can honestly say that I'm not excited about this.
Jimmy, I couldn't have said it any better.

I could see this game being sweet if it was survival horror. You're just some regular guy who ended up in hell by mistake and you've got to make it out the other side to save your soul. No weapons, no super powers, no righteous fury. Just a dude with a pipe wrench trying not to get his face eaten. That could be some scary shit right there...
As someone who deeply loves Inferno and the entire Divine Comedy and awesome EA survival horror games, I can honestly say I am totally and completely psyched for this.
