Warren Spector Talks Epic Mickey, Wants to Scare Children
Also, Duck Tales
by Coop

Game Informer isn't content with a several page exclusive reveal for Warren Spector's Epic Mickey. Oh, no, that's only the beginning. On their website, they've since posted a massive interview with Spector, where he reveals the incredibly history behind one of the strangest looking games currently in development.
Beyond the origins of the game, Spector also goes deeper into the story of the game. Obviously, it centers around Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, but he explains exactly why the dark "Wasteland" world exists. For as strange as it might sound, it's actually grounded in some sort of fact, based on Walt Disney's history of being a pack-rat who refused to throw anything away.
...if he couldn’t throw like a piece of paper away, how could he bear for the fruits of his imagination and his animators’ imaginations, and the Imagineers’ imaginations – how could he bear to see that just lost forever?
He also talks about his goals in the game, noting that his overall purpose, above and beyond anything else, is to scare children. I can't say that I blame him for this choice - if Disney gave me the blank check and rights to do whatever I wanted with their properties, after launching a Duck Tales game (which he, too, wants to do), I'd use every asset possible to ensure a few kids can't sleep well at night.
While I have doubts that this interview is going to turn any haters into fans, it's essentially pornography for anyone who's already had a few glasses of Spector's punch. I'm on my fourth pitcher already, so I needed a cigarette after reading the six-page interview. You can read the whole thing here, which is more of a suggestion than anything else. Seriously, read it, and pray that this game is half as good as it can be.
