When Game Names Attack!
Double Dramatic Swift Songs
by Coop
Gaming companies love to be witty with names. As featured in Top Tensday just yesterday, they can succeed greatly if they really put their minds to it. Other times they get lazy and decide to go with a gimmick, and Nintendo DS developers are the worst offenders.
Below is a list of games, both Japanese and American, that the developers decided to throw a final bit of awesome into the name of. Just try and find out what links them, and if you do I will call you damn sweet.
Advanced Wars: Dual Strike
In Advanced Wars: Dual Strike they actually implemented a feature that used both screens and was called a "dual strike."
Betty Boop’s Double Shift
Think about this: what came first with Betty Boop's Double Shift, the name or the idea for the game?
Bubble Bobble Double Shot
This title lets you swap out characters...I guess that is the source of the name.
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Other then being a stereotypical Castlevania name it had nothing to do with the game.
Contra: Dual Spirits
I have no idea. Thank god they dropped it for the US version.
Digg Dugg Digging Strike

No connection as far as I know. It's dig dug.
Dorabase: Dramatic Stadium
I...uh...I don't know...
Fullmetal Alchemist: Dual Sympathy

I guess you should feel bad for two people in this game. Or split your sadness between two people.
Godzilla Unleashed: Double Smash
You get to play as two monsters in this horrible, horrible game.
Guilty Gear Dust Strikers

I guess you might strike dust in a fighting game, but other then that I think it was a fancy way to get the name sounding, well, fancy.
Lunar: Dragon Song
Educated guess: there is a Dragon singing in the game.
Mage Knight: Destiny's Soldier
Lense flares on the D and S?! Awesome!
Mr. Driller: Drill Spirits

I actually bought this game. It was horrible and the title had NOTHING to do with it. I was able to trade it to a sucker for Resident Evil 4. I guess DS could stand for DUMB SCHMUCK!
Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword
Wow, a Dragon right on the blade...
Resident Evil: Deadly Silence
Silent, but deadly. This game rocked so hard in the mid nineties. Oh, wait, it was a DS game? Sorry, gamers.
Saeki Chizu Shiki Yumemihada: Dream Skincare
Other names: an old lady teaches you how to be shiny and smooth. Doesn't quite roll off the tounge.
Slidatron: Dual Space
I couldn't find box art, just the developers saying how the game is extremely innovative. Just like their name.
Tenchu: Dark Secret
Tenchu: Dark Shadow

A twofer! Apparently they decided to change one word in the Japanese to American translation. What, don't think we understand the word Dark?

Comments
In defense of both Ninja Gaiden and Gulity Gear, Ryu's sword in Ninja Gaiden is the "dragon blade", and "Dusting" is the name of the air combo technique in Guilty Gear
