Wind Slayer Public Beta is Go
New Free 2D MMO Slays Wind
by Coop
A few weeks ago I had a chance to jump online with a few of the developers of Wind Slayer, a free to play 2D MMORPG in the vain of Maple Story. I've never been huge into the free MMO scene, but what I played I liked, and now it's available for the masses. Oh, and in case you're wondering, you're part of the masses. Lucky, lucky you.
After choosing between a Warrior, Archer, Mage, Rogue, Monk, or Priest, players are invited into a colorful, vibrant, disgustingly cute world. As said earlier, it's a 2D platformer of sorts, but it isn't your average platformer. It's also an RPG, with plenty of combat, leveling, and devastating magic. The main thing that separates the game from others of its kind is it's focus, which lies squarely on player versus player combat. Instead of the forced grind featured in Runescape and the like, players are thrown at each other, progressing in level after battles with opponents. It's quick and simple, but fairly addictive, and I could see Wind Slayer rising in popularity quickly if the end-game content pans out. Then again, PVP is the ultimate end-game, so I don't think that's really an issue.
Other features include:
- Hundreds of in-game items to customize your character
- Powerful skills and deadly combos to battle foes
- Hundreds of engaging in-game quests
- Intense multiplayer battles with up to 20 simultaneous players
- Beautiful fantasy worlds and captivating visual effects.
- Engaging community features including chat, trade, guilds and more
There are still some events going on now, and you can visit the game's website for information on downloading the client. I wouldn't put it up against Warhammer Online, but as far as free goes there's a lot worse out there. If you're up for a duel be sure to let me know, I'll jump on to teach you a thing or two about a thing or two.
And then you'll kill me. Over and over again.

I might try it but right now I am hooked on Ether Saga!
Never heard of it. Might have to now.
Might have to give this a try.
I wonder why every 2d side-scrolling MMO has to be anime inspired. Why can't we get some original 2d graphics for these things? Albeit these look pretty sexy, but I'd like to see a little visual innovation.
