Xbox 360 Finally Profitable!

Microsoft Finally Makes Some Money Back

by Coop

Microsoft hasn’t been rolling in cash as of recent. While they are still one of the biggest corporations and the biggest one with its hand in the gaming industry by far, every year has seen negative numbers floating over their corporate headquarters in Seattle, Washington.

It appears they have finally made it into the green, as their numbers for the first half of the fiscal year post a $524 million income, as opposed to last years loss of $423 million dollars. In this long, confusing, and undecipherable document I am only linking to for formalities, Microsoft stated that the "Xbox platform and PC game revenue increased $1.0 billion or 35% during the six months ended December 31, 2007, as a result of increased Xbox 360 console sales, video game sales led by Halo 3, Xbox Live revenues, and Xbox 360 accessory sales.”

Much of the income was from the Xbox division, pulling in well over $300 million on its own. They were also helped out by less system malfunctions due to the new chipset installed in Xbox 360 consoles, which has turned the issue from a catastrophic level to a disastrous level.

Microsoft also states that they expect the trend to continue due to high sales of their console leading into the new year. Whether or not this is true or just them blowing hot air in a fiscal report cannot be known, but lets hope that we have an excuse to spend as much on gaming this year as we did last.
