Xbox 360 Modern Warfare 2 Limited Edition Console Announced
Good Work, MS, You Have the Most Expensive System
by Coop

Microsoft apparently missed the memo where everyone was super happy that consoles had finally reached a $299 price point, and went ahead and announced a stupid bundle that doesn't make any sense. Besides sporting a $399 price tag, the limited edition Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Xbox 360 bundle comes with the snazzy console (seen above), two wireless controllers, a 250GB hard drive, and a copy of the regular edition of Modern Warfare 2. You know, the sequel to the hit game that sold millions of copies on the Xbox 360. Yeah, that's what I said.
If this were coming out earlier in the generation it might be a good call, since the game and controllers alone mean a savings of at least $60 (without factoring in the larger HDD). That said, we're a bit deep for another SKU, especially with a needlessly large hard drive. The only market they might possibly cater to is gamers who already played the original on the PlayStation 3 and wanted a reason to switch over to the Xbox 360, but I imagine that group isn't really that large. For the most part, anyone on the hype train for Modern Warfare 2 likely already played it, which means they already have a next-gen console.
If it was a lower price that would be one thing, since a $299 bundle with MW2 would be a great replacement for an RROD'd console, but this? This is silly. This is Microsoft and Activision high-fiving each other for no apparent reason.
What do you think? Good call, or waste of plastic?

so its the same price as the elite, a second wireless controller, and the game... but you get a bigger hard drive... its not as terrible a bundle as you make it out to be... however, many of the previous 360 bundles haven't flown off the shelves... the halo 3 bundle, which was supposed to be a big limited deal, ended up hanging around in my gamestop store room for months after the fact... i dunno... im not opposed, but im not jumping for joy either...
Extra controller = $50, game = $60, so that's actually less than $300 for just the basics that come with every 360--but it has a super huge hard drive. That being said, you're right about everyone who would want this probably already having a 360.
If for some reason you haven't bought a 360 yet and were waiting for Modern Warfare 2, I'd say jump on this, it's actually a really good deal.
But see, I keep my 360 on its side. And having the "2" be oriented sideways would probably bug me.
Although a 250GB HDD seems a bit overkill to me, when you consider that the 120GB sells by itself for $149.99, this doesn't seem like that bad of a price.
