Assassin's Creed...so far...(Taken from my weplaythis.com blog 2/9/08)
Makes me want to nap.

I guess anyone who has looked at my "shelf" can see I have a little addiction with gaming. As of yesterday, while at work, fellow weplaythis member M Clutch and I went over a list of just XBOX 360 games that I own and out of I think it's like 48 or something there were 14 games that I had never even gotten around to putting in the tray! This is partly due to the fact that I was a legendary victim (in these parts) of the dreaded Red Ring of Death. From August until mid November basically I was without a working 360 but maybe I'll tell that story in a later post. The point is during that time I still purchased games and it just ended up piling up on me.
Anyway, when I went home from work with my list of games I decided I'd start at the front of my real game shelf at home (I tend to keep things in an alphabetical/chronological order as best I can - a bad habit that started with CDs when I was younger - my weplaythis shelf is in some form of that order as well) and Assassin's Creed was at the front so in it went.
Now it was incredibly hyped by both the media and many of my friends. I did read alot of the press that said it wasn't really all it was cracked up to be but I'm usually content with minor gaming flaws and can still enjoy a game. I'm not too far at all really, I just did my first assassination in Damascus and while it is getting more fun as I go on, I am underwhelmed by this game. It looks pretty good and has great acting in it but like many have pointed out the controls are lacking. At first I had kept forgetting the controls and appreciated the constant reminder, but now that it's set in and it's second nature I feel more like I'm playing an interactive story, hitting buttons at the right time as it does the rest for me than REALLY playing such a vast open world game. I just hope it gets better or if and when there's a sequel they offer more.
Oh and listen to the Combobreaker Podcast that I drunkenly participate in regularly. You can find it on iTunes or in the Combobreaker weplaythis group page.

Assassin's Creed gets a lot better once you have some knowledge of the basic controls. The views from the perches are breathtaking.
hated this game for the first 3 days i had it. im glad i kept at it. it does get better, however, then it gets repetitive.
i'd give it a 7 out of 10, maybe a 6 because it doesn't, in my opinion, have a whole lot of replayability.
well i'm probably just past the half way point and yea i mean it becomes a lot smoother with the weapons and abilities added back but like you said the repetitiveness of it is driving me nuts. i find myself just collecting achievement points and starting to really enjoy the story but still not exactly enjoying playing it to learn the end. i will make it through though because i still have 13 games that haven't entered my xbox yet.
