Crackdown - Most Underrated Game Of 2007 (Taken from my weplaythis.com blog 2/23/08)

Crackdown is better than what you're playing

So he's on top of a building and he's throwing a car. SOLD! For anyone who didn't get around to this game or passed it off as the packaging for the Halo 3 demo well it's cheap and you should get this. I'd like to go out on a limb and declare that this might be the most enjoyable and fun open world game I've played. The story is basically this:

Crackdown takes place in the fictional metropolis of Pacific City, Pacific City, which laid out across four islands with several districts and areas within it, and is controlled by three crime organizations: the Central American Los Muertos, Eastern European Volk, and East Asian Shai-Gen. The Agency, operating from a large skyscraper from the center of the city, has taken it upon themselves to restore order in the city, assisting the overstressed Peacekeepers who act as police within the city. The primary character, the "Agent", works for the Agency, and is tasked to systematically bring down the three organized gangs while keeping the populace and Peacekeepers safe. The Agent's actions are monitored by the Agency, and the Agency Director (voiced by Michael McConnohie) continues to report to the Agent on his progress

which I stole from wikipedia for the sake of saving time.

I am a fan of GTA and was very much into Saints Row but Crackdown really takes the cake because of the addition of their abilities. You aren't just a cop killing thugs, you are a SUPER cop that, as the picture shows, knows no bounds. You can leap across rooftops, lift and throw huge objects, and drive up buildings all while eliminating the gangs far below on the city streets. You have 5 different areas in which you can level up including agility, driving, firearms, explosives, and strength which by the time you level up you are nearly unstoppable.

While the graphics aren't as realistic looking as some I rather enjoy the cartoony look of the game as it ends up looking more like a comic book than a film. I can't say enough about the game and how much I love it. It's totally in my top 3 games on current-gen consoles. So head out and rent it, buy it, try it out. Good effin' times!

Fun, but ultimately pointless. The story barely kept me moving from boss to boss. However, once I realized you could shoot the tires out of approaching cars, I spent another 8 hours just doing that.

The gang hit squads was enough of a point to move from boss to boss. The majority of the action surrounded each boss - including the added bonus of the more distinct environments each boss is found in.
