Racing Games...Why Bother? (Taken from my weplaythis.com blog 1/29/08)

I'm feeling refreshed.

As most of you are aware from listening to my whining on the Combobreaker Podcast, my motto on racing games has been "Why bother?" I think it was almost unanimous in believing that racing games just aren't doing it for us. We all mentioned great games we liked and it all came down to arcade style racing vs. racing simulation. The latter being a useless genre in gaming.

It is with total surprise and joy that I mention Burnout: Paradise to you all! I bought it yesterday and played for about 3 hours straight and only stopped because I literally fell asleep - controller in hand. Download the demo, rent, buy - whatever your poison is! PLAY THIS GAME! Arcade Racing at it's best with other events added in, an open world environment, and a decent soundtrack.

Oh. Lots of crashing.

I personally wasn't impressed with the new Burnout: Paradise game, but that's just me. I much rather play a racing simulator.

Although Burnout is one of the few racing games I enjoy, I just can't see myself dumping $60 on a racing game. But I'll probably pick this up at like a Black Friday sale or something...I'm incredibly cheap when it comes to some games...
