Gears 2 Patch Fixes Matchmaking Issues
Other issues are still issues
by Dominic
Epic released a patch for Gears of War 2 today to fix the matchmaking issues that everyone has been having. Players will no longer experience long wait time for games to be matched. This comes as a relief to players as the old solution of having to disband your entire party and starting over again was getting very frustrating. The other specifics of the patch are as detailed:
- A tweak that should prevent us from losing some of our additional detailed stats data that we gather for gearsofwar.com. Due to the large number of concurrent matches, our stats gathering servers were not able to collect data for every single match played. The Xbox LIVE leaderboards are 100% accurate but our existing stats web pages may have some missing data prior to the update.
- A fix to address the issue where some players were unable to start the story-based campaign if Xbox LIVE was down or unavailable.
When I read that a Gears 2 patch was released this morning I was very excited. There are so many issues with the way the online multiplayer performs that I was eager to find out the specifics, but I was a little dissapointed once I did.

If you've played Gears 2 online you've met the annoyance that comes with the game's multiplayer. The host advantage still exists even though Epic claimed it would not, and various glitches plague the game which diminish all true competiton such as:
- Spawning with infinite bullets that do no damage
- Getting stuck in the roadie run position which prevents the player from using any weapons
- Weapon glitches that players can use to hold an unfair advantage such as crabwalking and the shield glitch
As a gamer I feel cheated. It's a shame that Gears fans spent $60 on a new title with the same old problems. What is the problem with Epic that they can't spot these issues? Don't they pay beta testers and a team of professional developers? I guess all we can do as gamers is patiently await the next patch.
