Microsoft Developing a Console MMO?
Rob Pardo has totally seen it. I swear.

What’s the one thing Xbox 360 owners always wanted but could never have? According to Microsoft’s E3 press conference it was Metal Gear, but what would be the second thing? A solid MMO perhaps? It’s debatable, but I sure as hell would pick it up. We won’t be seeing World of Warcraft, Guild Wars, or City of Heroes on consoles anytime soon (or ever) so where do console gamers go? And no, I’m not going to acknowledge the abomination that is Final Fantasy XI, but Microsoft may have something in store for gamers with said wish.
In a recent interview with Industry Gamers, Blizzard’s executive vice president of game design, Rob Pardo, revealed that Blizzard has indeed been in contact with Microsoft regarding an MMO.
IG: We've yet to see a blockbuster MMO take off in the console space. Sony Online Entertainment is going to be bringing its MMOs to the PS3. What about Blizzard? You said you talked with Microsoft?
RP: Microsoft has shown us some stuff they have in development and they asked us our opinion about it – that's all that was.
So it appears Microsoft does have something in development, but who knows what exactly. We can, however, go ahead and speculate of course. Gee, I wonder what wildly popular Microsoft title would both work well and sell well in the MMO market. Get my drift? Yeah, I think you did when you read the title.
Besides being an entirely new game this very well could be the “canceled” Halo project that we’ll never see, or it could be something as miniscule as a silly avatar game. But hey, at least they’re trying…or not.
