Resident Evil 5 Co-Op takes over GoW?
Is it a great contender for console Co-op?
by FRicanKrazy
Now-a-days games really need to have a great multiplayer component and Resident Evil 5 brings that great feel, but with a classic twist.
Two player. When's the last time you asked if a game was Two player? I feel like that's taking me back to Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis. Resident Evil 5 brings back the glory of two player co-op in a big way.
Play split-screen, or play online. It's just you and your partner and you will feel the connection. It's very easy to get tunnel vision in RE5, and with proper team work, you and your partner can cover each other.
Gears of War has great co-op. The stop and pop action, with cover fire for each other, and the occasional help me up. GoW is a great game but I always felt it was missing that need for a partner. (Minus their wingman mode which is great)
However in Resident Evil 5, once you learn how to micromanage your inventory, not only do you and your two player friend cover each other, but you can share ammo and health as well. You will also have to rely on your partner to do the right thing and not get in trouble while your seperated.
Once you beat the game, you unlock Mercenaries mode which is a HOOT! I think I logged 30+ hours of Mercenaries mode and the game came out on Friday lol. This is where you get into the nitty gritty on having to depend on your partner to keep the big kill combos coming in for bonus points.
In my opinion, even though the control scheme feels like you're driving heavy robots, and not people, it suits itself for tense moments and really gives you that sense of trust and dependency on your partner. Once there's a momentum and understanding, you'll see the definite improvement in your points.
Oh yea, this isn't a versus game yet. It will be with DLC.

For something I chalked up to a gimmick, the RE5 Co-Op has, so far, been AMAZING.
I want :(
I'm loving in so far. Playing it exclusively in coop mode with a friend from college. I wish shared inventory was an option though. It could have been in the host setup screen, host shared inventory or independent. Not being able to trade weapons is disappointing.
I agree about the weapon sharing :( I have this game now so if anyone wants to join me add my gamertag: Runaka
Guys guyy, swapping upgraded weapons is like selling your level 80 on wow. The upgrades, money, and points is what Capcom wants you achieve . Give them that at least. Upgrade your own stuff :P It's still awesome. once you get a few infinite ammo weapons the game is a blast.
I agree now with the no weapon sharing. I was ignorant at first but having played it for a while I now understand. Add me to play with me: Gamertag: Runaka
I wasn't suggesting to have two separate inventories with shared items. I think in the host setup screen there should have been an option for host shared inventory and non-shared.
I don't want someone to play with me that already has a infinite ammo gun. If I ever play solo, it sucks that Sheva has got nothing and that I'll have to buy her everything. I can replay the level but that kind of defeats the purpose.
I'd rather that whoever plays as Sheva take what she has and be able to use/upgrade at will. Since I'm playing with a friend, I have no problem with the way that he uses resources.
