Video Game Music

Do you have a secret stash on your MP3 player?

by FRicanKrazy

In December 08, I was graced with "Video Games Live" playing at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.  This was the first fully orchestrated concert I had ever been to (plus Choir) and I absolutely loved it.  They played classic arcade stuff (before even NES) to a Metal Gear Solid medley that gave me goosebumps.  I'm guilty of loving video game music.

I have the whole Silent Hill ensemble stashed in a folder on an external hard drive. (Weird right) Plus orchestrated renditions from Square games, and I even learned how to play Aeris' Theme on the Piano. (and 600 A.D. from Chrono Trigger)

I just wanted to say that if any gamer, has the funds and the opportunity to go to this concert, there's no reason why you shouldn't go besides just not knowing it exists.

It was one of the best events I ever attended and I'm committed to going everytime it shows up in my area.  I just wanted to share :D

Secret stash? Guilty? I proudly play my video game music in my apartment whenever I'm not doing anything specific. My OCRemix folder is rather large, too, and is regularly featured on my playlist.

BTW, I do intend on going to VGL when they come by Montreal next time. Just waiting for a date to be announced.

Yeah, there's nothing "secret" about my video game music. Games have some good tunes, and there's nothing to be guilty about if you like them.

My iPod easily can kill a party since movie and video game soundtracks play 70% of the time when on shuffle.

I've got the entire Neverhood soundtrack and some of the Smash Bros Brawl remixes of old tunes on my ipod.

I have a few OSTs I like to blast.

Silent Hill, Silent Hill 3, Persona 4, Bust-a-Groove 2, Vagrant Story, Parasite Eve, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, Devil May Cry, Persona 3, Shadow Hearts, Gitaroo-Man...

I also have a few *ahem*burned*ahem* CDs with songs from various games--Digital Devil Saga 2, Disgaea, Xenosaga, DMC4, Sonic the Hedgehog, and more.

Personally my favorite track right now is "You're Not Here" from Silent Hill 3.

    Oh, its no secret.
I often use Yu Miyake's "Wanda Wanda" from Katamari when I'm spinning out house music.

LOL @ Darth on Shuffle. I just don't feel like succumbing my friends that have no idea where this music is from to the music. It makes me feel good but I'm not sure about the 3 other people in the car that might be with me heh.

I'll see what I can do about 600 A.D. but it's the Klutz rendition on OC Remix

Don't listen to video game music outside of gaming which is weird because I love a lot it. The Final Fantasy music comes to mind, specifically the music from Tactics, man I LOVED the music in that game. Also FF IV, Chrono Trigger, FF XII, SoTN, FF VI, and others.

My favorite game soundtrack would have to be from the 1st (NES) Metroid - its simplistic considering the hardware but the music is still so haunting and original to this day.

And it's so appropriately "futuristic", the equivalent of Vangelis score + Bladerunner, just a perfect fit.

@Karoshi: Yeah, you totally broke my head open with Wanda Wanda. In the best way possible.

I have tons of game music on my PC--and I tote a bunch with me on my iPod. The first two Katamari soundtracks, Final Fantasy Tactics, Sonic, Castlevania, ActRaiser, the theme to Mega Man 3, the Phoenix Wright orchestral and jazz albums, the Halo games, SoulEdge, SimCity SNES, and Wild ARMS to name a few.

Pretty much all of the major 16-bit tunes. I've got some 32-bit Mutato Muzika from the Crash games and Stewart Copeland from the Spyro games, but nothing seriously epic. It makes nice background music.
