2008’s gaming lineup added dozens of new characters to the gaming scene. Starkiller made his way into Star Wars continuity in a big way, Niko Bellic worked his way through the criminal underworld towards the American Dream, Solid Snake said goodbye to the world of gaming, and Professor Layton showed the world how a gentlemen reacts to a world in puzzling times. The gruff boys of Gears of War reminded us how much fun the boys of Delta Squad are to hang out with, and the motley crew of B-Company gave us something different to fight for.

But, though plenty of games revitalized old characters, a new arrival stole our hearts.
