Activision Number 1

Activision Passes EA as Top Grossing Third Party Developer

by Gamervision

Thanks to the success of such titles as Spiderman 3, Call of Duty, Tony Hawk, and a little game know as Guitar Hero, Activision has now surpassed EA in yearly earnings. Activision sales have almost reached $400 million, leaving behind EA with $365.7 million. It's the first time in 10 years that EA's dominance has been rivaled. We're sure that Guitar Hero III will help too.

All well and good, but let's not forget that Madden hasn't hit store shelves yet. EA will be back on top.

True....Madden will easily put them over the top. Still it is nice to see someone get close.

Yea, Sean. But ALL of EA's sports lineup comes out in the fall- Madden, NCAA, NBA Live, NHL & FIFA. Did they only include sales from this yr. or did they compare the last 4 quarters? If they did the latter, then Activision is still on top since it included last fall's sports lineup.

A good point Maiko... I do find it interesting that we all get so excited over sales figures that put nothing in our pocket... in fact, these numbers show how much we got raked over the coals on games like Spiderman 3, and Guitar Hero. I mean, $80 for a game with controller! Could you imagine if EA made you plunk down $100 in accessories just to play Madden?!
