Best Game Ever 2009
And The Winner Is...
by Gamervision

The term “Game of the Year” or, in our case, “Best Ever,” changes definition depending on who is discussing it. There are a number of different games that might earn the title any given year depending on who is asked, and what they believe to be the most important aspect of gaming. Some consider it to be the game that was the most fun, an award that could easily be handed to New Super Mario Bros. Wii, which made retro new again. Some say that it’s about how much time is spent playing a game, which we would have to give to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2, thanks to the extremely addicting multiplayer and brilliant campaign. Others might say that it’s about creating experiences that might seem impossible in any other medium, which is something that Assassin’s Creed II excels at. Others, would argue that the position should be held by a game which was the most surprisingly good, which is a great way to describe the Dark Knight’s first successful foray into gaming with Batman: Arkham Asylum. Yet, it can often be a game that is a mixture of all of these assets, which is why Gamervision’s Best Ever for 2009 is...
...Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. It might not have the absolute best multiplayer of the year or be the most addicting game, but it pushes the medium forward with stellar presentation, a story that rivals some of the best films, and some of the most enjoyable gameplay to ever entertain characters. The cinematic experience is simply unparalleled, blurring the lines between mediums and doing so in a wonderful manner. Naughty Dog should be endlessly proud of what they’ve accomplished with Uncharted 2, and they’ve not only given PS3 owners something to show off, but created one of the finest gaming experiences of all time in the process.

No doubt about it, completely deserved. I was blown away by Uncharted 2 even more than I thought I would be. Naughty Dog has raised the bar.
Sarah, stop acting like a faggot.
And please play Deus Ex and review it.
Thanks as always for your insightful and witty commentary, Still Remain!
I just think it's ridiculous of you to think that you have redeemed yourself from picking two 'questionable' games like Persona 3 and Persona 4 as your games of the years 2007 and 2008.
Your colleagues were probably laughing at you when you brought up an pedophile-attracting anime games against Metal Gear Solid 4, GTA IV or Fallout 3 as a GOTY contender. Well i'm sorry for them, because Persona 3 was a better game than BioShock and Persona 4 was better by leaps and bounds than GTA IV. You don't have to restore their confidence in you because you reviewed and gave a 10 to this year GOTY.
I bet deep down inside you think Persona 4 is a much superior game than Uncharted 2, no , not because Yukiko's realistic chuckle, or Nanako's hair animation, or Inaba's jungle lightning, but because Persona 4 is more satisfying , more engaging and more magical than Uncharted 2.But you won't say it, because they wll be laughing at you again.
Well worth the award. I'm glad that it won the Gamervision Best Ever 2009 GOTY.
@Still: While we do, indeed, love laughing at Sarah, it's not for her gaming tastes.
Also, news flash: only RPGs are capable of being Game of the Year. That is all.
You know what, even though Persona 4 didn't even come out in 2009, we should probably scrap the whole Uncharted 2 thing and award it Game of the Year. EVERY YEAR!
I wasn't talking about Persona, i was talking about your integrity.
You've been yapping about Uncharted 2 as if it was a great 'catch' . You probably have inaugurated the first Uncharted as 'the game under my radar that will make my colleagues taking me seriously because i was the first one who recognized its potential' .
Your first 'catch' , namely Persona 3 , went unappreciated by your colleagues, so did Persona 4. So when the chips were down , you picked Uncharted as a fail-safe , incase your first 'catch' didn't bring you the recognition you desire from your co-workers.And it paid of. Uncharted 2 became a jewel in your achievement crown.
Because in terms of creativity and gameplay , Uncharted franchise is only 'Gears of War with jump button'. The plattforming, the action aren't as nearly as demanding and satisfying as other third person action-adventure like Ninja Gaiden Black, another game i'd recommend you to complete. Try to perform Izuna Drop once, and you'll know what i mean.
But Persona 3 and 4 , boy , i'd say that Persona 4 is up there with Resident Evil 4 and Half-Life 2 in terms of immersion (realistic school life, realistic characters), combat (strategic battle system, each encounter pushes your tactical finesse to the limit), and creativity (Personae forging mechanism) .
You've dowgraded your standard from excellent gameplay of Persona franchise to 'cinematic appeal' of Uncharted just because you're whoring for approval from your teammates . That makes your journalistic motivation pretty much questionable. That is also the reason i've asked you to play Deus Ex, then probably it will open a new horizon to your mind, becaue it was the first game that combined shooter with stealth , plattforming ,open-world and adventure-game -elements, so that in the future you won't make idiotic remark like 'Uncharted 2 has raised the bar'.
Goddammit do I respect the free exchange of ideas and open, uncensored dialog that this beautiful thing called "the internet" affords us. I really do. And I encourage everyone to express their opinions without fear or reservation.
That being said: THE GAMES THAT I LOVE ARE FAR SUPERIOR TO THE GAMES THAT YOU LOVE, AND THAT SHOULD MAKE YOU FEEL BADLY!!!
Uncharted 2 is making everyone's game of the year. I guess I need to get on the ball and play the first one.
Now what's all this hulabaloo about Persona something or other? Is that a game or something?
"Persona 4 is a much superior game than Uncharted 2, no , not because Yukiko's realistic chuckle, or Nanako's hair animation, or Inaba's jungle lightning, but because Persona 4 is more satisfying , more engaging and more magical than Uncharted 2."
To you. Not to everyone. Those are called opinions.
Oh Still Remain, you're so silly. So, okay, I get it now. In your opinion, I only CLAIM to love the Uncharted series because I want my co-workers to take me seriously, or something like that. So I'm incapable of honestly expressing my own opinions and have no journalistic integrity. I especially love the part about how I'm WHORING FOR APPROVAL from my co-workers, even though all of our votes for the end-of-year awards carry the same weight.
As Coop said, they don't laugh at me because of my gaming tastes. They do laugh at me for attracting the unsolicited attention of self-hating, nonsense-spewing trolls.
But thanks for recommendations on how to "open new horizons on my mind", I really need help with that, being a reviewer and playing games from just about every imaginable genre at all. It sounds to me like you should take your own advice and open your mind, accepting that your opinion may not be the only valid one.
I wasn't annoyed by the fact that you voted this game and everybody else (except Luke), i was annoyed because you said Uncharted 2 raised the bar, while it didn't.
You've played another games that in fact 'raised the bar' ,namely Persona 4, but you didn't keep harping on it like you do on Uncharted 2, because P4 didn't win Spike Award.
No, Still Remain, I don't keep talking about Persona 4 because it came out in 2008. I do talk about it in the article about my favorite games from 2008, and in the Persona 4 review. P4 and Uncharted 2 are both fantastic games, and they pushed the industry forward in different ways, because they are completely different titles. So, sorry you're disappointed and annoyed with me, but it doesn't change the way I feel about 2009's Game of the Year.
