E3 Predictions

Final Round - Nintendo

by Gamervision

The 2007 E3 expo is only a few hours away from kicking off. While no one will know for sure until some time on Wednesday what Nintendo is going to be announcing, we at Gamervision.com can now share what we expect the revived video game giant may bring to the table this year. The white smoke is rising and we now return from conclave to present what we believe the next 24 hours will reveal. Coop: I am looking forward to what Nintendo has to offer this year. Since the Wii was released at least 3/4 of the titles that were made for the system were ports. Now that Nintendo is selling absurdly well, companies will find it worth their time to start developing games that are much more than that. A large amount of third party support in exclusives will most likely be shown. I can see many DS and PSP developers jumping over to the Wii. I don’t see them doing much online support, as I don’t think anyone is going to try and take Microsoft by the horns and challenge XBL. As far as Nintendo, I am really unsure. I see several roads down which they could take the Wii’s success. One way is to ride it as far as it goes. The system has sick-nasty momentum and will continue to sell well through this year into next. Will Nintendo continue to let one game slide out at a time, denying gamers of first party support until sales begin to dip? Or will they let slip their big guns as fast as they can to push the Wii into the front of the race? I expect at least video showings of Wii Pikmin, Mario Kart, and at least one or two Mario Sports titles. As far as DS I can see a new Metroid being announced, but not shown. Good fun, right? Sean: After a banner year, Nintendo is on top of the world. At a time when both Sony and Microsoft are losing money on their next-gen systems, Nintendo finds itself in the enviable (and impossible to predict) position of having two systems setting record sales numbers. But, therein lies the problem: will Nintendo rest on their laurels in the hope that people will continue to buy up anything that has the "Wii" or "DS" stamp on it? Or will they try to vault to such a high place that it will be decades before MS or Sony can touch them? Personally, although I would love to see the second option, history tells me it is more likely that we will see take it easy this year. For the Wii, I expect to see a ton of footage from Super Mario: Galaxy, as well as Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. There will probably be some Zelda: Phantom Hourglass footage to appease DS fans. You can expect to see a whole lot of details and titles announced for the Wii Ware Channel. I would love to find out news about a new Wii Zelda game, but I won't hold my breath. Joe: It's all about original software developed specifically for the Wii. No more ports. Expect updates on Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime Corruption. Mario Cart has been a rumor along with a Star Wars Light Saber game that hopefully doesn't involve the word "Lego" in the title. I also remember murmurs of Zelda fans not having to wait very long before Link's next adventure hits the Wii, since Twilight Princess was originally developed for the Game Cube. The Wii is cute. I want to see some software that will show it's muscle.

I always look forward to Nintendo's E3 announcements. I predict that there will probably be at least some movie footage of Mario Kart Wii and SSBB; demos of Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, The Phantom Hourglass, Disaster: Day of Crisis, Project H.A.M.M.E.R., and DK Bongo Blast.

That's about as far as my predictions will go. However, as for what I wish: I want to see Pikmin, Zelda, and a Rayman platformer on the Wii, as well as a single-player only Metroid adventure on the DS.
