NYCC 09: Gamervision Is Heading to New York Comic Con
Here's What We're Looking Forward To
by Gamervision

Unless you've been living under a rock, you already know that this weekend is the New York Comic Con, the East Coast's largest comic convention. This year's show promises tons of celebrities, cos-players and more gaming exhibits than ever before.
And since the thing is practically in our backyard, Gamervision has sent its own team to cover the show. Coop, Sarah and 00.19 are getting ready to head on out, but before they get going, we wanted to give each of them a chance to let you know what they are expecting to get out of this weekend. Here's what they came up with:
Coop:
New York Comic Con? I have no idea what to expect. I've never been to a comic book convention before, and I assume it’s more like an Anime Con than a Gaming Con, which means most of the people there will be dressed in incredibly silly outfits. Oh well.
I hear there will be games as well, so that’s a plus. As a matter of fact, a huge amount of them should be present, ranging from Activision’s Prototype to THQ’s Deadly Creatures. I’m excited to see what an East Coast convention can really be like, since my only experience so far was VGXPO, which isn't half the size of the NYCC. I’m also looking forward to being in NYC, since I don’t get to go that often, despite it being a short trip away.

Last year was my first attending New York Comic Con, and as such I had no idea what to expect. Going with one other staff writer, resident comic nerd 00.19, to represent the brand new Quarterbin (as well as Gamervision, of course), we planned to liveblog some panels, do some interviews, and make some contacts. Then we got there, and things got really crazy. With only two of us to cover the huge show floor and numerous events, we barely even saw each other. That being said, we also had a blast and were excited to return this year. Thinking that we knew what to expect, we felt fairly confident that, with Coop coming along also, we would have everything under control.
Of course, in the last few weeks, it has become obvious that New York Comic Con is going to be much bigger than last year. Pretty much every minute is planned from start to finish, beginning with an Activision party tonight and ending with a top-secret meeting with a certain top-secret publisher on Sunday afternoon. What do I expect? I expect to not have a whole lot of time to eat, sleep, or relax. I expect to have an excellent time, and I expect the hours to fly by. I expect to get a lot of hands-on time with some upcoming games and meet a lot of cool people, in both the comic and video game industries and on the show floor.
I also have some high hopes for NYCC. First of all, I hope that all of the games I get to play meet or exceed expectations. I hope that I don’t spill food or beverages (or anything) on myself at the Activision and Sony cocktail parties. I hope that I can maintain my regular coffee intake and can find time in between panels and meetings and interviews to guzzle some caffeine. I hope that there are enough outlets in the hotel room to charge my camera, phone, computer, DS, PSP, and about a zillion other electronic devices I can’t seem to travel without. Most of all, I hope that everything goes smoothly despite the chaos, that everyone has fun, and that we come back with lots of swag and stories about our adventures—even if we are a bit frazzled and sleep deprived.

It’s only been 10 months since the last New York Comic Con, but a lot sure has changed. Skrulls invaded. Iron Man’s a fugitive. The Green Goblin is head of the largest peace keeping force on the planet. Kryptonians are back. Batman’s dead. A movie based on a comic is nominated for a major Academy Award. Oh, and Captain America is still dead. Well, maybe not everything has changed. Going into the convention last year, I was full of wide-eyed wonder. The biggest con I’d been to prior to that was Wizard World Philly, and the difference between the two shows is like comparing a cardboard cutout of Arnold Schwarzenegger to the real man. Needless to say, sensory overload was the order of the weekend.
With just hours until our first NYCC 09 shindig, I have to say, this year is probably going to be even bigger and better, and I’m not quite sure my tiny heart can take that much excitement. The list of creators we’re talking to, combined with the list of games we’re taking an early look at, compounded on top of what I consider a big coup for us - attending the Wonder Woman premiere and interviewing Bruce Timm - has my brain and heart firing on so many cylinders that I’m not sure I’m going to make it home in one piece. The best thing about this job is I always get to be a fan first, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Good luck at the con, guys. So jealous! I haven't been to a convention since wizard world Philly like five damn years ago.
hope yall have fun
I'm only about an hour away, but cannot even make it there to say "Hi" and talk for a few minutes. Not enough time, or money, to do so. Sucks.
