According to the game's director, the newly announced Soul Calibur IV will feature online play. He is quoted as saying: "What's changed this time round is that the next-gen platforms have network infrastructure already in place. We've heard from fans that they really want the game to be online, so we figured that, with the current environment, we really couldn't make SC4 without online play." While this is indeed good news, it should not be considered earth-shattering. A next-gen game being online should be the standard. Who doesn’t remember hearing Microsoft, Sony, and even Nintendo hawking the fact that connectivity is the future? Sure, Nintendo may have meant it in the means of $12 dollar connection cables, but regardless. Developers who make non-online games for systems with the capability for it should be ashamed.
