Spielberg’s Games Revealed
Legendary Director talks Wii, 360, and yes, even PS3
by Gamervision
Last year at E3 it was made public that the director of such films as Jaws and ET would take a leap onto the small screen and direct a few video games for Electronic Arts. Time went by and as the facts concerning the project dried up so did the speculation. Some have wondered if the project was sipping mojitos with the Halo movie on the beach of “Never Coming Out Land.”
Turns out the Halo movie is doing keg stands alone as specifics on Spielberg’s projects have finally been announced.
The first game announced was a Wii title, described in an article on MSNBC.com as "an action-puzzle simulator—code-named PQRS—that neatly blends the creativity of the building-blocks game Jenga with the charm of a Saturday-morning cartoon. It runs on top of a physics program that lets you manipulate blocks with the Wii remote as if it were an extension of your hand."
This sounds a whole lot like Elebits, which is hard for any game journalist to ignore. We are excited, however, to finally see original Wii games instead of second-rate ports. Whether or not you are a fan of Spielberg, having a director of his caliber step into the gaming world can only be good for gamers as it will promote companies actually spending money and taking chances.
"Loser makes the PS3 games!"
The second game in development will be for the HD systems of this generation. It seems to be more plot driven than his Wii game, and, again, is described by MSNBC as "'North by Northwest' meets 'E.T.' —if E.T. were female, grown up and, um, hot. You don't play as the girl, however. You're an ex-secret agent, and the bond that you forge while on the run with the computer-controlled woman—good, bad, indifferent—determines the nature of her special abilities and the ways in which she'll assist you."
Again, an interesting idea that may end up being worth a play if EA decides it is worth putting money behind it. We will hear more about both of these games in a matter of days, most likely, and Gamervision will report it to you without fault. And to think, it all started with tennis
