Wii Not Getting a Hard Drive After All

Virtual Consoles Filling Up With Games- VC Users Filling With Rage

by Gamervision

Gamers have been speaking up lately about how quickly they are filling up the 512MB of internal flash memory with games from the Wii Shop Channel. And with the announcement this week of the Wii Works development tool, Wii owners can't be blamed if they start hoarding memory cards. And for weeks, there has been speculation that Nintendo was going to announce a hard drive upgrade for the Wii at the upcomingE3 conference. Well, that's why they call it speculation. After the announcement of the development software, CVG asked Nintendo directly if there were plans to add a hard drive to the Wii. The response from a UK Nintendo representative was a simple, "No." Looks like we'll be shuffling decks of memory cards for at least the foreseeable future. Thanks a lot Nintendo! Source

I don't see this as a real problem. 2GB SD cards are not expensive, and they can hold plenty of data--even for those who download plenty of VC games. However, I wish the SD cards would work in-sync with the Wii's internal memory. Swapping channels back and forth is a real inconvenience.
