The stock racing music on Gran Turismo 5 is innocuous at best, crappy at worst. What's needed are some songs that want to make you drive fast. A good driving song may have nothing to do with the driving (in fact, most don't).

I'm not talking about top down, sun in your hair, cruising on the PCH with your toy poodle kind of faff. I'm talking about middle of the night, high speed burns across the desert. The kind of music that makes you want to push your right foot through the firewall and DRIVE.

So in the spirit of driving fast, here's five songs to help get the pedal down. I hope you have some good speakers.

5) "Born to be Wild" Steppenwolf by Steppenwolf

It's trite for a reason. It's because it's perfect.

4) "Upon This Tidal Wave Of Young Blood" Clap Your Hands Say Yeah by Clap Your Hands Say Yeah

One of my favorite albums of all time. I haven't gone on a road trip without playing this album at least one since its release.

3) "Lust for Life" Lust for Life by Iggy Pop

The unmistakable (and oft copied) opening drums are only one of the many things that makes this song great. The fast tempo and unabashed love for heroin made this song a perfect match for Royal Caribbean to use in their commercials. Wait, what?

2) "Rod and Cones" Audio by Blue Man Group

Oh the things one can do with a drum set and some PVC pipe.

1) "One of These Days" Meddle by Pink Floyd

From the dueling and, ahem, driving bass lines to the unremitting beat, this is one of the greatest fast driving songs ever written. Best enjoyed at night, or at least on a night track.

And, of course, pretty much anything by Daft Punk.
