PS3 Orange Box Suffers Frame Rate Issues

Thanks EA.

by HeyKidNiceRobot

Just when things seemed they couldn't get any worse for PS3 owners, 1UP is reporting a number of issues plaguing the PS3 version of The Orange Box. David Ellis writes:

After spending a significant amount of time with a near final version of the PS3 game, it's apparent that this version suffers from a number of technical flaws, which at best merely hinder game play and at worst make the experience downright unplayable.

This might come as a surprise, until you see who developed the PS3 version. Valve handled the PC and 360 versions, but handed over development for the PS3 to EA, which has stiffed PS3 owners before on big titles like Madden '08 and skate.

While 1UP goes on to call the Half Life 2 part of The Orange Box nothing more than a "port", it does seem like Portal is running smoothly. No word on Team Fortress 2 though, server issues prevented any playable demo.

While Gabe Newell has been outspoken about his dislike of the PS3, calling it a "waste of everybody's time", EA is starting to look like public enemy number one.

This is sad for PS3 owners because this game truly rocks. EA really screwed up on this one, and it looks like yet another reason not to want a PS3 (though this one may not be Sony's fault). They better hope Metal Gear saves their asses.

Uncharted was a great addition, but there really does need to be a blockbuster, and soon. I know there were big hopes for Haze, but there didn't seem to be anything that innovative with it. Metal Gear will help, but it's a long way off, and you know it will be on the 360 sometime.

The real question is how is this possible. Portal and Half-Life 2 run on the same exact engine with different assets and some custom code. But in reality, if Portal runs fine then there is no reason the same should not be true for HL2.

You'd be surprised, I have non-hardcore gaming friends who have seen commercials for Uncharted and started wanting a PS3. I think that, if they market it properly, Uncharted could be a big hit.

looks like the orange box should have entered the "break your nose for Kane & Lynch" contest.

Ill have to wait for Metal Gear on 360, im not interested in this kind of thing happening with a system that should rock all others on performance (even if the price is too steep, and the game selection is still weak). Once again, Sony is gonna loose out. I WANT A PS3, so give me a reason to get one Sony!!
