Monster Hunter 3

Total newbie here...

by J-Man

Got vaguely interested in the game maybe last week, but the more I watch and understand the game, the more I feel like I could enjoy this. The thing is that pretty much all the videos on YouTube are people defeating monsters over the course of like 20 minutes, so it's hard to get a good feel for the game...

Can anybody with MH experience explain the overall structure of the game? How does it play? Is there a good variety of quests, or is it just bashing monsters' heads in? How much content is there? I've read reviews and previews, but they don't seem to say whether or not there's much more to the game.

I'm a complete newbie to Monster Hunter, so any info is appreciated.

I have Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. The premise of the game is to go out into the wilderness so you can kill some huge dinosaurs and dragons multiple times so you can get armor and weapons to kill MORE dinosaurs and dragons. Then, when you're skilled (because your armor will always be too weak for what you're doing) enough to kill all of the dinosaurs and dragons in the game, you unlock tougher versions of the SAME dinosaurs and monsters. It will frustrate you, you will curse the creator's cruel cruel name, but you will keep coming back for more.

I'm hoping Monster Hunter 3 has more meat and bones to it though. I'd love a more "RPG" experience like an open world and more towns. Supposedly the difficulty scale is so you'll find friends to team up with, but I find it just annoying at times. I haven't played in awhile.
