Checkpoint Reached...

Is it me, or are some checkpoints random?

by JackBauer936

Like the President's new Healthcare bill, I'm dead before I start. To explain, I have been defending the DSM download in Makarov's hideout (MW2) for three days now.

Having lined up my claymores and staking out a position on higher ground, I carefully began picking off a seemingly endless wave of of hired mercenaries (exactly how many can one terrorist hire by the way?).

As one of the hired guns makes his way towards the download, which is clearly working off of the dial-up version of aol 2.0, I run to the top of the second floor overhang, repeating a military maneuver made famous by Robert E. Lee at the battle of Cold Harbor.

It's a tight spot; a risky manuever that will take a bit of skill and a mountain of luck. And then...Checkpoint reached, followed by death. Reflecting on a quote from Robert Kennedy as the game reloads, I plan my new approach, only to find that I respwan at the same axis of death as my previous failure. Repeatedly, I die, caught in a time loop worthy of an episode of LOST.

It's said the definition of insanity is to repeat the same action over and over while expecting different results, and yet, Infinity Ward has seen fit to give me no choice.

A random checkpoint system, it seems, has foiled my plans to save the U.S. from total destruction. And yet, I refuse to restart the level. It's like a Civil War re-enactment, with hopes that the South will prevail.

Firstly, I'd like to say that that section of Modern Warfare 2 was my least favorite of the entire game and pissed me off... a lot. Throughout the game I definitely experienced some checkpoints that started me off in the line of fire, though not nearly as bad as the situation you've described. Just cut your losses and restart the level, there's crazy shit coming up in the game and you'll want to get there.

I had Virtually the exact same scenario. After the fourth time of spawning and getting a point blank Shotgun blast to the back I restarted. I stayed in the Prone position by the left table behind the DSM. With my trusty MP5 and few grenades i successfully protected the DSM and moved on. Definitely a shitty point in an other wise outstanding game.

Oh i love the game, but when it's easier to defend the Oval office than it is to defend a Unabomber-style shack in the woods, something's wrong...very wrong.
