DIY Amphibious Bicycle

Lately it seems like the people of China have the DIY bug, mainly for their methods of transportation. Most recently, a woman in the Hubei Province built her own amphibious bike, using water containers as pontoons.

While you’re likely to look like a bit of a nerd riding this around on the streets, you’ll definitely be the coolest damn bike in the water.

Wood Frame Bike Makes Me Skeptical

It seems like every day there’s a new innovation in bikes, and today that innovation is wood frames. Renovo is attempting to revolutionize biking with their sleek, lightweight wood frames.

Conspicuously absent from the wooden frames is a fixed gear, although above is their bamboo fixed gear. Also pretty conspicuous is that rear end made of either aluminum or carbon on the first frame, and the aluminum fork on the fixie. Anyway, apparently they ride very smooth and stiff…blah blah blah. More design than function, if you ask me. Nevertheless, the idea is pretty cool.

However, if they’re going for old timey goodness, I challenge them to craft me a wooden Penny Farthing. I shall ride it while wearing a mustache and a monocle.

(I would also accept a wooden tandem)

Granny Kills Snake With Bare Hands

Proving once and for all that little old ladies are not to be fucked with, 87-year-old Esther Orring of Tampa, FL killed a pygmy rattler with her own two hands.

NBC News reports:

“…when a seven-inch pygmy rattlesnake slithered up to Esther Orring’s door on Monday and bit her on the hand, she got even, strangling the venomous little serpent with her bare hands”

Chances are that I will never be as badass as this lady. But here’s to hoping.

Thanks for the tip, Paige!

Pistol Gun Only Shoots Pictures

The DORYU 2-16 is a Japanese police-issue 16mm pistol/camera hybrid.. Chris Burns over at WorldFamousDesignJunkies.com managed to dig up some info on this rare piece of work, and apparently it is pretty serious business over in Japan.

200503-31-500x375

“This camera is a serious camera for the police, and not a toy…The DORYU 2-16 has the same C mount as the 16mm movie camera. A Cine-Nikkor 25mm F1.4 lens was able to be mounted in the DORYU 2-16 pistol camera.”

These cameras are supposedly super rare, and super valuable. Also, super strange.

    Ugh. Listen up, Japan.

The clear choice for the gun/camera hybrid is the 1930's era Thompson Submachine Gun because they both have the circular drum mags. I mean, even if the whole barrel and handle of that pistol were hollowed out and fitted with reels, there's no way you could cram more than a minute of film stock in there.

    Come on, Japan. Get serious....
