Metal Gear Online

Beta Starts In August For Those With "Japan" In Their Mailing Address

by Joe

With MGS fans eagerly waiting till March '08 for the release of Metal Gear Solid 4, our friends across the sea get a first look at the upcoming Metal Gear Online. Starting now, anyone in Japan can go to Kojima Productions and sign up for the public beta. MGO will run the same engine and control scheme as MGS4. Since Kojima Productions feels so strongly about this game, they are making it a standalone title. It will be an online only game, focusing on teamwork as opposed to firepower. Players will work together using technology from MGS4 and a new type of gameplay know only as "S.O.P.". There isn't much information about this acronym except that it will also play a vital role in MGS4.

Seems kinda strange cause I don't think of MGS as online with huge battles and just shooting. I'm sure there are games with hopefully alot more stealth involved. Looks great though.

I am also curious to see how the menu-heavy aspect of this game (which has been made evident in the trailers) will work its way into a multi-player co-op mode. Will entire teams have to disguise themselves as sculpture?
