Why The $100 Price Drop May Have Convinced Me

What A Difference Five $20 Bills Makes.

by Joe

When you really look at it, it's only about two tanks of gas, or 60 cups of coffee. Yet for some reason, now I want a Playstation 3. It could just be the psychological impact of facing a $499 credit card bill versus a $599 one. Or maybe it's just that I have wanted one all along and this is a sorry excuse. Whatever it is, I want to get in on 40 person multiplayer matches with Resistance: Fall of Man and kick up the some of the most realistic mud in Motorstorm. LittleBigPlanet looks like it could be one of the big surprises being offered later this year. I would have included that I want to play Metal Gear Solid 4, but chances are it will be officially multiplatform after E3. Or maybe I just want to play games and watch movies on a quieter machine. Feel free to talk me out of it.

I am right on board with Joe on this one. I think this is a do-able price, although, much like the iPhone, this will have to wait until after I get the HD set.

"I wonder if Sony can win back user support by the price cut of just $100," Kitaue said, adding, "I don't expect a substantial impact...With $500, you can buy a personal computer."

"Since Metal Gear Solid was born for the PlayStation, we would like to keep it a PlayStation game," Kitaue said. "But we might have to take some steps."

dude, you only get 60 cups of coffee or two tanks of gas for $100? You really need to explore the option of Wawa, and a new car.

Get the PS3. You'll want it in the fall. GTA4 is multiplatform, but its a PlayStation Game.

While Motostorm looks cool, $100 off ain't jack when you can STILL get a Wii for half the price! $500 could net me a VERY nice monitor & video card upgrade which would be WAY more worth it than a console with a couple decent games. And no, I don't need a blu-ray player, tyvm!

Considering that you now have an HDTV, Wii, 360, and iPhone, do you really need another hi-tech gadget? Aren't there enough games on the other two systems to appease your gaming desires (for now) $499 is no small price for a system, unless, perhaps, you want to use it as a Blu-Ray machine.

I think the real deciding factor would be for the games. Are there enough exclusive games--present and future--on the Playstation 3 to convince you to buy it? If not, you probably want to hold back until it does.
