In a recent conference with Gamespot, Blizzard wanted to ease the minds of all the
StarCraft 2 fans out there who saw early screen shots and cried "foul".
According to Blizzard's top creative talent, Rob Pardo, there are five major differences between
StarCraft 2 and
Warcraft 3:
1.
Quantity vs. Quality
StarCraft 2 will be a numbers game. More with firepower will dominate the few with abilities.
2.
More Emphasis On Economic Activity
As with the first
StarCraft, one of the main keys to victory will be in the build-up of your forces. This was never a key feature in
Warcraft 3.
3.
Rushing - Strongly Encouraged
Fast and forceful. Keep the enemy occupied while you build up your forces and rush them again.
4.
The Good, The Bad and The GOSU
Warcraft 3 was a more accessible game to beginners, but those who have played
StarCraft will reap the benefits in
StarCraft 2.
5.
Beyond Rock, Paper, Scissors
Blizzard will be introducing more features using "Fog of War" tactics. Troop placement, maneuverability and key positioning will all be needed for victory.
He still didn't answer one simple question; was it made on the
Warcraft 3 engine?

So it is Starcraft 1 with Warcraft 3 graphics...........
Blizzard, QUIT CANDY-COATING EVERYTHING!!
My formal rebuttal:
1. Quantity vs. Quality
This has never been used as a good thing to describe a game. All they are saying with this is zerg win!
2. More Emphasis On Economic Activity
Thats complete crap. Saying that money is important in a real time strategy is like saying jumping is important in a Mario game. It was very important in late game WC3 to make sure you had enough gold and lumber.
3. Rushing - Strongly Encouraged
Doesnt this go against the previous two statements completely?
4. The Good, The Bad and The GOSU
Again, this is not a good thing. All it means is we couldnt make the game user friendly.
5. Beyond Rock, Paper, Scissors
Again, something every RTS has.
