Retailer Lists Resistance 3 With Box Art, Date, and Plot

Insomniac Starts Spreading the News

by Jonathan H. Cooper

So, yeah, Sony didn't announce Resistance 3 at E3 2010. They were expected to, but, for whatever reason, it was decided that they would wait. Maybe they didn't get the 3D working, maybe it didn't have Move support yet, or maybe it was just too early. Whatever the reason was, the game wasn't announced, despite the fact that it's completely, absolutely, positively happening. And soon, according to eStarland, an online retailer you likely have never heard of.

The website not only has the box art, which has the same logo we saw when the billboard for Battle: Los Angeles leaked onto the internet, but a synopsis and a release date. While I'm sure it's all temporary, the fact that the logo in the box is the same one from the billboard (albeit cleaned up) means that this is likely official. That, or someone painstakingly recreated it for the sole purpose to trick us. Considering people don't care that much about Resistance, we're going to assume it's the first one. A release of March 2011 fits, too, and sets the game up to compete with some of Xbox 360's heavy hitters.

But what about the plot? As you can see if you squint at the logo, the title is to be set in New York, and, apparently, players will "Continue the fight against the Chimera invasion in Resistance 3, as the battle moves to New York City and humanity makes its final stand." Final stand? Sounds like the end of a trilogy to me. Looks like it's time to get really excited and go back to finally play the first two games. Well, actually, you can just skip the first one. Seriously, it's cool. Aliens attack. That's all you need to know.

So, what more proof will we need? Sony might even announce this as soon as this week during Comic Con, so stay tuned for more information. Or not. They might just release it in March and see if anyone notices.

I hope that it's better than the last one.
