TF2's Engineer Dispenser Sneaks Into Sam & Max
Holy Dispense-O-Matic 9000 Provisions Dispenser Little Buddy!
Know what's awesome about point-and-click adventure games? There's a lot of room to hide stuff. In order to make environments interesting, the developers need to pack them full of meaningless objects to drive the player's eyes away from other, meaningful ones. Telltale Games might be the masters of this craft, and have hidden a wide variety of interesting thingamabobs in their games. One, however, in Beyond the Alley of the Dolls, might be one of the best in the series' history.
Very minor spoilers below!
At one point in the episode, Sam & Max find themselves in a cloning laboratory filled with a bunch of different technological nonsense. There are empty boxes, terminals that do nothing but elicit silly dialog from the duo, and other pieces of machinery used for puzzles throughout the episode. In the corner was a familiar sight:
A level one Blu Dispense-O-Matic 9000 Provisions Dispenser from Team Fortress 2. Clicking on it caused Sam to take out a wrench and hit it, causing a sound effect taken right from Valve's shooter. As an unabashed fan of both Valve and Telltale, this was enough to give me a slight nerdgasm. I, of course, continued clicking over and over again, despite the fact that it seemed as though nothing was happening. It did, though; after a number of clicks, something came out, and while it wasn't important to the story, it was enough to elicit a smile. I'll let you find it yourself.
Oh, and the episode itself was pretty awesome good. Check out the review here.
