Duke "Blew" It

Does this 90's video game idol deserve our attention?

by Jpage0024

I'm not going to try to pretend that I didn't think Duke Nukem was the coolest thing when I was in middle school, however after waiting 13 years since the release of Duke Nukem 3D I was wondering, should we even care that they're "making" another one this far down the line?

I came up with a few questions to spark some debate on the mostly stagnant franchise, and was wondering what you other Duke Nukem fans thought:

If it does finally become a reality and is released then will you line up to buy it?

Does 3D realms have the right to charge $60 when this new Duke hits the shelves?

Would you buy it for PS3, 360, or PC?

Have you found yourself secretly praying to the gods that it does get finished?

Would you like to see it crash and burn?

What are your thoughts on the many release dates and false promises? Does the "When it's Finished" idea seem fair to you, considering its long wait?

Check out this interview with the creators (its about half-way through the video, so just scroll to it)... is World of Warcraft to blame? hahah.

Overall just spit out anything that comes to you concerning the long wait for Duke Nukem Forever. I'd love to hear what the Gamervision community thinks.

as a member of the GamerVision community, I'll have to say that I hold no opinion about this.

If they can manage to capture the attitude and fun of DN 3D, it is totally worth the wait. I really prefer a developer to have the attitude that they aren't going to release a game until it is completely finished, up to their highest standards. Valve is a great example of a developer that really cares about it's games, and it shows in the finished product.

On the other hand, Prey was also in development for like 9+ years. I was actually reading a Gamepro article previewing the game from November 1997 like two days ago (Yeah, I have a large collection of gaming magazines dating back to 1994, and I read them.) While I did really like Prey, it definitely didn't feel like a game that was in development for so long. Maybe 3d Realms just has constant development issues?

Also, the footage of Duke Nukem Forever looks great, so far.

i honestly never played Duke Nukem 3D so for me i don't really care if it hits shelves or not, though if it turns out to be a good game then thats cool, might check it out.

The thing about this game is that it's become such a running joke within the gaming community, so if it does come out and it's less than perfect it's going to get torn apart. And I don't really see Duke Nukem Forever being Game of the Year anytime soon. I would give it a chance, but I still doubt it will ever see the light of day. And I'd most certainly rent/borrow it before running out and spending $60 on it.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add that Mikey Hamz brings up a good point with the "it's done when it's done" mentality... that works really well for Valve, but I'm not sure if that is the case with this game. It seems like 3D Realms are just really bad at finishing games.

    Good question, by the way!

I think that the difference between Valve saying it as opposed to 3D Realms is that Valves tone is in respect to the gamer, where as 3D Realms seems to be annoyed that we keep asking about it.

I personally was a huge Duke fan, and this new game is definitely a running joke for most gamers (including me) as lame as that is to say.

I guess the thing that annoys me mostly about this series is that it has/had such a cult following and a chance to be a great alternative to the now bland armor-suit, lazer-gun, world war epic shooters and it all comes down to a few lazy developers who seem to be void of any interest other than leveling up in WoW (and yes i know that was mostly joking haha).

I wish for a game like this so badly when all i have to choose from is a medley of :edit:copy:edit:paste first person shooters. On that note I would love another Conker game with a new story. Is that too much to ask haha?
