You could argue that Wrestlemania 2000 is the greatest wrestling game of all time. You could make a case for WWF Smackdown too. Hell, I'm sure someone would go to bat for Def Jam: Fight for NY.
But before you make your final judgement, listen to Dom's impassioned love letter to WCW/nWo Revenge. Tight controls, fun gameplay and an amazing cast of characters makes this game well worth playing. So take GoldenEye out of your N64 and give Revenge a shot.
As Booker T. would say. "Don't hate the playa', hate the game."

This game was the SHIT. The first one was good but Revenge really blew me away with all the new additions.
My friends and I STILL play Wrestlemania 2000, which is essentially the same game with different wrestlers. The whole AKI series of wrestling games were so accessible and ridiculously over the top. You can just punch the shit out of people and it works, but not in a cheap way.
Sadly, I never had a 64 growing up. I chose Playstation (it was a good choice tho) and so I had to wait until the first smackdown game for a passable wrestling title to own. I remember going over to my friend's house and playing this all the damn time though. It was the best of it's era.
