Magical Mustache Monday VOLUME 4
A Cookie Dusting Delight
by mikeyraw196
This week’s stache belongs to Doc Louis from Mike Tyson’s Punch Out. You may find yourself thinking “Hey, why do so many Magical Mustaches come from the same video game?” My response is simple. We recognize greatness. Would you question how the Beatles made so many amazing songs? I didn’t think so.

Time to get down to the nitty gritty. Doc Louis grew up Brooklyn NY. As a young man, Louis had a promising amateur boxing career. Boasting a record of 75-2-1 (56 KO’s), Doc burst on to the heavyweight scene in 1953. Quickly moving up the ranks, Doc earned a title shot with Rocky Marciano. Going into the fight, he was a slight underdog, but boxing experts were predicting an upset. A week before the fight, Louis was involved in the now infamous “Ten Speed Debacle.” While riding his bike on the river side in the Bronx, Louis fell victim to an attempted mugging. In the mid fifties, facial hair was rare and in great demand. Gangs of bald lipped hoodlums roamed the five boroughs looking for fresh follicles. Many do not realize that this is where “The Gangs of New York” originated. Well, refusing to relinquish his mustache to the would be robbers, Doc was shot twelve times in the legs at close range. Needless to say, this ended his boxing career.
While tragic as it may have been, this event led Doc to find his true calling. He became know as “Trainer of Champions.” His crowning achievement would be training a 4’10” 120lb man to become World Heavyweight Champion. That man was Lil’ Mac. (never known to wear a mustache) Lil’ Mac once said “I could have never accomplished so much without the guidance of Doc Louis. Without him slapping me on the shoulders between rounds, I would not have been even able to get past Piston Honda.”
Simply a legend.
