Is the Hottest System Completely Overrated?

Does anyone else think that Nintendo Wii is terribly overrated?
OK, the sports games are fun for a little while. But how long will flicking one’s wrist to execute a simple strike-function continue to entertain the masses? Does it add to the gaming experience to use motion detection as opposed to pushing buttons? I don’t think so.
I will admit, I was very excited when the Revolution, err... umm ...I mean Wii, was announced. I imagined playing a revamped Goldeneye with a Wiimote as my gun. Cool concept. But then I played a few Wii games and my excitement transitioned to disappointment very quickly.
Graphically the Wii is a boy amongst men. Having no HD capability was a huge turnoff for me immediately. I know Nintendo’s theory was that they were revolutionizing the way we play video games and not the way we see them, but come on. They had to know this was a mistake.
It is cheaper, which will appeal to some, but you get what you pay for. Nintendo lost me at the Game Cube and I don’t think I can ever go back. I have a feeling once the initial thrill has fizzled, we will be seeing the Wii following in its predecessor’s footsteps. That is, collecting dust on the back shelves at Gamestop selling for fifty bucks.

it could turn out that I am just a grumpy old gamer and that the Wii outsells em’ all and goes down as the greatest console ever. I might pick one up when they are fifty bucks. Until then, you can find me paying $400-$600 dollars for consoles with archaic button schemes.

The fact that you list no HD capability as a turn off means the Wii is not meant for you. If you want to play shiny games buy a shiny system. The point of the price is so you can own a 360 and a Wii, not just one or the other.
For me, there is room in this world for both the Wii and the 360 (I leave PS3 out only because I haven't played it yet...) When I want a photo-realistic multi-player game, you'll find me on my 360. When it is time to have fun or just immerse myself in another world, then I'll be on my Wii. Overall, I'd have to say I use the Wii more often.

To me the Wii is more of a toy/gimmick rather than a console. I've played Wii Sports and I felt ridiculous playing it. Standing in the middle of a room swinging a remote at the tv. Nintendo is well known for appealing towards kids more than adults, so it's kinda acceptable. But why do the adverts of the Wii all have adults playing with it? I think this is Nintendo trying to get more adult gamers interested in Nintendo. Honestly, I've only seen children interesed in the Wii and ONLY children owning a Wii. Some big Nintendo fans who own the Wii say that you don't have to move the Wii-mote that aggressively and that over-exaggerated, you just flick it or barely move it. Thats all fine, but I want to relax while playing a game. Gaming is a part of relaxing like watching TV. I don't want to play a game and think about moving my wrist or remember what flick does what move. Its bullshit! Thats like watching Tv and having to flick the remote in a certain direction to change the channels. I too think the Wii is WAY over-rated. It was instantly popular on release, but you know whats said about things that are instantly likeable - they soon get boring and irritating over time.
