A Brief Mikhailov Rant
Games and Stuff
by Mikhailov
I'm still working on a couple of reviews, but I haven't gotten around to finishing them yet. In the meantime, I thought I would throw in a rant. While I'm ranting, I'm going to throw in some pictures that same up when I did an image search on the word "rant."

The Assassin's Creed Rant
Over the course of last week, I beat the original Assassin's Creed. I thought this would be a fun game. The first two hours were fun. Once I finished my first two assassinations (none of them were stealth), the swearing began. Everywhere I turned, I was getting chased by guards. By the end of the game, it would take me 15 minutes just to finally get into a hiding spot so I could continue my mission. I finally took 6 hours on Saturday and beat it. I was so strung out by the experience that I didn't play videogames for several hours. When I went back to gaming, I played Mario. It was a nice gentle break from the swearing. I thought reviewers were being over dramatic when they said it was the "biggest dissapointment of 2007." While it wasn't a dissapointment, it was annoying as heck to play, with very little fun factor for me. I still have Assassin's Creed II in the plastic as a result. It'll be awhile before I play it.

The Final Fantasy Rant
I'm currently playing Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers. I'm enjoying the experience, but in my opinion, it seems a little too linear for a Final Fantasy game. I have not been asked to partake in any side missions or sidequests, and I'm hearing the game is 10 hours at most. This game is so beautiful, I'm a little dissapointed there is no multiplayer or character creation elements like the original had. I'm a HUGE fan of the original, and Echoes of Time was only marginally the same experience. I so want to take my own avatar into the lush world Squeenix made for Crystal Bearers.

The Star Trek Rant
Star Trek Online's open beta starts next week. As a preorderer--erererer, I'll be able to get in on this. I honestly can't wait, and I've been pondering getting a month of WoW just to say good bye to my beloved toons. I'm not going to pay the $15 just to pay $15 on Star Trek. Yesterday, I turned in Assassin's Creed and Batman and put $40 on my $80 collector's edition. Not bad. Here are the people I'm hoping to play with:
Coop, QMarc80, my friend from South Dakota, and my friend from Kindergaten. I just hope the game is worth all of the hype. There is next to no gameplay footage or decription on how the game works. I will be captaining my first starship blind...as will everyone else. Is there anyone else interested and looking forward to this game? If so, here's a code to get a free admiral's uniform from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn."

Sign into the STO site, register, and input this preorder code. I found it online and it worked for me.

So far the beta is... so... it's...
Traded in Batman for it?
hope you like star trek a lot.
Wish I could commiserate but I haven't played Assassin's Creed (I'm planning to just skip it and jump right into the second one, which I got for Christmas) or any of the Crystal Chronicles games. I like my Final Fantasy straight up with Roman numerals and haven't been able to get into any of the other games in the franchise. Not a Star Trek fan either but I have enjoyed your rants!
@Coop: Wait you've played it?
Are you at liberty to say?
@FemJesse: Really? How come? Not a trek fan?
Haha. I can kind of relate to AC. While I didn't rage, it was definitely a game I was just trying to finish. I somewhat tried to be stealthy but if I set off an alarm, I killed all pursuers to stop it. That definitely made it a bit more enjoyable. I'm still looking forward to playing the second but it's definitely a gamefly rental for me after playing the first.
I enjoyed the first Assassin's Creed, but I have no trouble at all seeing where repetition and missed opportunities would frustrate many gamers. I thought that AC2 flowed much better and at the end, wished there was more. (which of course there is)
