Punch Out!!:Then and Now

Nintendo's attention to authencity and nostalgia never cease to amaze.

by Mikhailov

Game sequels nowadays are getting quite the reputation for staying as true to the original as they can be. Punch Out!! is definitely NO exception. This game not only plays like the NES original, it looks and SOUNDS like the NES original. I can't explain this awesomeness in words, so me, my big screen TV, and my sub-par digital camera bring you some gameplay footage. In traditional Science-type format (I think?), I simulated from the title screen through the first battle with Glass Joe in both versions.

Wii Punch Out!!

I haven't been this much in awe at the authencity of a sequel to the original since a few months ago with Street Fighter IV. We're talking serious awe here. What do you think?

I, personally, think it's a wasted investment. Sure; the graphics have been upped, but the controls are still the same. Or, at least, they were when I tried it out the other day at Gamestop. Oh well. You enjoy your game. You enjoy it.

I agree with Qmarc and I'm sipping the haterade on this title. 14 fighters = $50? You got to be kidding me. Nintendo is catering to the casual audience again and they won't be getting my money.

I enjoy this game, but it's starting to lose its replay value...

...now that I'm on Super Macho Man , I'm GLAD there are 14 fighters. O.O

Yeah, this game is well-made, but only because it is the same well-made game they shipped when we were all kids. It sucks that they couldn't add in a few more features to make this thing have some more longevity.

I'm disappointed to hear about the paltry number of characters in this one. Very much so.
