Review
Brütal Legend (Xbox 360)
So not like the Demo, but not bad overall.

This ended up being a not-so-quick review because I wanted to beat the game first. That hasn't happened for reasons explained in the review. On top of that, this review did take me 2 hours to write because I just wasn't sure what to see about this game. Finally, I give you my review of:

When I played the demo, I was enthralled by the hack and sash scene at the Temple of Ormaggoden. The comedy was great, the story was captivating, and the characters of Riggs and Ophelia were pure awesome.

This holds true for the final release...to an extent. It begins with some hack and slash glory, and has some great missions. Freeing the Hedbangers from the mine in one of the first missions was EPIC in my opinion. I found the missions leading up to the halfway point to be quite enthralling. I played the missions, established connections with the characters, got thrown off by the amazing plot devlopments and twists, and I wanted more!

Then things went downhill. I found myself losing a LOT. Realizing that I went through half the game without getting the health inducing bound serpents, I spent hours in a boring grind to get the serpents I needed, went through a needlessly long Real Time Strategy moment, found myself on another continent where I needed to collect MORE bound serpents...and go into MORE Real Time Strategy battles. Eventually, I just stopped playing and moved on to PSP games.

Granted my own taste in video games differs from the normal taste, as I don't like to be frustrated or bored when I'm playing. The bound serpents bored me and the Real Time Strategy elements frustrated me, but the hacky slashy fun parts made me love this game. The story, graphics, characters, and landscape are all wonderful. I do see myself going back to finish the final battle and complete all of the side missions (just so I get to talk to Ozzy), but I can see it being a chore to get to the ending, not an enjoyabe experience.
Graphics: 10
Sound/Music: 10
Gameplay/Replayability: 6
Final Score: 7

I'm only a few hours in but I'm digging it so far. I understand why the RTS elements threw people through a loop, but I don't mind so far. Good review though, you made me excited to get back to it.
