Sony Misses Little Big Planet PSP Release Date on PSN

12-year olds and college kids voice their rage.

Monday night at 11:59p.m, EST the Playstation Network was updated. Eager fans were apparently awake at this time logging onto the Playstaion Network awaiting the release of Little Big Planet on PSP. One minute before the release date, one game was added to the Playstation Network.

Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines.

The GameFAQs "Little Big Planet" forums exploded with rage, but the rage soon subsided as the posters had to get up for school the next morning.

Around 12:00p.m on Nobember 17, 2009, the Playstation Network went down. Playstation Blog's Twitter page claimed, "PlayStation Store's undergoing regularly scheduled maintenance for a few hours today. We'll update when completed. Thanks for being patient."

People with nothing better to do analyzed this message, took it apart, and made conclusions like they probably did with John Milton's "Paradise Lost." The analysis of the message assumed that Little Big Planet would be back up following the maintenance.

It wasn't, and GameFAQs again exploded. At 12:00a.m, Sony officially missed the release date on the PSN, and at 5:34a.m. on November 18, the game is still not on the network.

Normally this would not be an issue, as Sony updates on Thursday, but unreliable sources claim that this game was supposed to match the release date of the UMD, which was available for purchase at 12:01 on November 17 from Walmart. One of the big selling points of the PSP Go was that new release digital download content was supposed to be available immediately upon release of the game. PSP Go adopters were supposed to be able to enjoy the game before everyone else can get to Game Stop to buy a UMD or a bigger memory stick.

Instead, early PSP Go adopters remain plagued by an unreliable Playstation Network with a poor game selection, and actually have to wait longer to play games than those who chose to keep their PSP 3000.

Here are some of the comments posted on GameFAQs throughout the day yesterday:

"I guess LBP releasing on the PSP is no big deal to Sony. I can't even log into GAP to complain about it. lol"

"Ican log in on my PSP, but it's just Assassin's Creed Bloodlines.

I went to Target to buy my copy of Star Trek, and there was LPB staring me in the face. I was half tempted to just buy it for my PSP 2000, but I waited. "It'll be on the PSN by the time I get home."

Yeah right. Us PSP Go adopters are the most loyal to Sony, and we get thanked for it by a sub par PSN selection, and a horrid updating policy. People who have a UMD compatible PSP could have been playing LBP at midnight, but us true loyal PSP fans get the shaft.

Thanks Sony."

"I'm glad I only have a 3000. I went in the line at Gamestop and the employees at the register ask somethin' like "You're here for Left 4 Dead, too, right?" How bold it felt saying "Nope! I'm here to pick up my copy of Little Big Planet for the PSP."

"dear sony, your methods are BOLLOCKS thats right i said it!"

"The waiting game sucks. Let's play Hungry Hungry Hippos."

"Me = Just laughing at the PSP Go users while I play little big planet"

"Yeah this sucks ass. Assassin's Crap or whatever it's called was there since about midnight, but still no LBP. Really, I don't want Ubisoft's latest mediocre offering. Where's my platforming goodness?!"

"You know, instead of a buying a psp go and giving up my 200 I was smart enough to stay on a psp and saved up for the limited edition modern warefare 2 360....:) 400$ well spent"

"This is one of the many reasons why Sony is getting owned in this generation of consoles."

"has anybody spotted any download codes in the wild? My good friend works at gamestop and he doesn't have them in, nor has them coming in this week. I am extremely upset right now that hong kong has it and USA does not. Why did they put Assassins Creed up and not LBP? LBP is first party, more people want it, and it's not a 6 hour game. It's a flagship title, one they will hope to boost PSP sales. THIS IS FRUSTRATING."

"It's officially the 18th. I officially hate Sony."

@Coop: Sony's actions, or the GameFAQs posters? :P

@Mikhailov: I usually have nothing positive to say about whiny forum posters, but I think the outrage of PSPgo owners is more than justified at the moment. Sony messed this one up big time.

@Sarah: Agreed. It's a shame their hardware is excellent, but they don't support it with the software necessary for it to be successful.
