Red Ring of Death

RROD at the hands of a car-wielding madman

by NickDynmo

A hilarious series of events occured tonight. While trying to play some GRAW 2 online with MeLLoWDaDDee this evening (something we'd been trying to set up for a while now), my Xbox started to freeze and make scary sounds. After a few repeats of this, it finally started to full-on RROD on me. Repeatedly.

Cue the panic.

After a moment or two, I look up the number for Xbox customer support. I'm greeted by an automated, disembodied voice calling himself Max. Max is clearly trying way too hard to sound hip, or "extreme." It's worth pondering if he was, in fact, "doing the Dew" as he was recording these messages.

But I digress.

After being helped by a nice man named Alan, and unplugging and replugging my hard drive in, my Xbox seemed to be cured! Hooray! After freezing once or twice more, I finally get into a game of GTA IV with Coop and Sean. Things are looking up!

However, the optimism is as short-lived as my avatar. About 10 seconds after joining the game, I'm met by a speeding madman in a flashy motorcar. He's headed straight for me! I try to dodge, or at least fire back, but to no avail. For you see, as soon as this ne'er-do-well makes contact with my body, my console dies once again. This time, for good. This frenzied gentleman hit me SO HARD, that it killed not only my character, but my Xbox 360.

Well played, sir. Well played.

A prepaid box with which to send in my Xbox 360 is on its way within 3 to 5 business days.

Sean knocked your ass out of the console world!

Sorry to hear that, man, it happens to all of us eventually. Have a PS3 or Wii to mess around with until your 360 comes back?

I can use my brother's Wii, but I've never really been a fan. I play Brawl occasionally, and we rented Boom Blox last weekend (I recommend you all do the same, if not purchase it). No PS3 yet. Way too many other things I need to pay for first. I've got my PSP and DS, at least. I'm halfway through a few games for each. Plus, I haven't even started Phantom Hourglass yet!

After about an hour and a half of searching, I finally found the Penny Arcade comic I was looking for.

Sorry mate. I think mine's gunna break down on me sooner or later too.
Yeah, that Max guy pisses me off.

Hahaha that PA comic was exactly what I thought of after reading your article. I guess I don't have to look for it now.

This wouldn't even be so bad if I wasn't nearing a 100-day streak on my 360 Voice blog.

Okay, first of all, in my defense, although Coop told me that he got a message from Nick that he had been experiencing problems, I was not aware that Nick's problem was as severe as it was.

Secondly I will not apologize. Nick was in the room, and I was in the car. Couple it with the fact that he was standing right in front of the dock, and I couldn't help but run him down. Any of you would have done the same thing in my shoes! STOP JUDGING ME!

Seriously though, it sucks that Microsoft's console died at my hand. I have become RedRinger, destroyer of 360.

    Oh, yes, btw Sean:
Nobody's mad at you, no worries. However. When I get my new Xbox back in the mail, it is on.

Wait, you mean I would've have witnessed all this if I accepted Coop's invite yesterday night? Damn my PSU addiction.
