Election Day 2008 - Make History

Today isn't too much different from any other day, I guess. I'm still eating candy for breakfast, my betta fish, Bowie, is still trying to find a corner in his round bowl, my downstairs neighbor still doesn't know how to park his car and Chris is still listening to Phil Collins. But unlike any other day where I eat candy for breakfast, Bowie tries to find a corner in his round bowl, my downstairs neighbor doesn't know how to park his car and Chris listens to Phil Collins, today we can make history.

We all want our voice to be heard, and now is the perfect chance. It is your right and your privilege to vote, and nobody can stop you. It is also your responsibility, so live it up.

And just as a reward for your best efforts, these places will be giving away free treats to voters.

  • Starbucks - vote and get a free cup of coffee

Don't be intimidated! This is your right. And remember that as long as you're in line, they have to let you vote, even if it's after closing time. If you're confused about your voter registration status or the location of your assigned polling place then visit Can I Vote? (canivote.org).

Now get out there and make history!

Keyboard Thumbtacks

Here's a great Instructable that'll put some of that old computer graveyard to use for some awesome keyboard thumbtacks. While I'm sure someone somewhere is selling them, there's something even more special and geeky about making them yourself. Especially if you have "To Do" lists that include buying AND eating carrots. Usually I only remember to do one of those things which can get pretty confusing indeed.

Check out noahw's Keyboard Thumbtack Instructable here.

Pill Poppin' Cufflinks

Here's a classy take on aspirin to spruce up your sleeves. Little do people know that it is actually a rather literal interpretation of what really is holding your cuffs together, a pill of aspirin. And how perfect that you should have two arms for a full dose.

The Aspirin Cufflinks by Simon Carter are available from Wheesh for about $52.00.

Floppy Disk Felty Coasters

I don't know what I love more: that these felty floppy disk coasters come in an old Minikas-Ette Library Case or that floppy disks in general are making a comeback. I think I'm going to just settle for loving both equally. Yeah!

While the actual Floppy Disk Coaster Set may be currently sold out (let's give them some time to make some more with their new found e-fame and following), individual coasters are available for sale for $7.50 from thegeekery Etsy shop.

Keyboard For Blondes - ???

The Keyboard for Blondes.

No, seriously. That's what they're calling it. And to be honest, I can't vouch for all of the ladies if that's offensive or not because, well, I've always been a brunette. As a matter of fact, I will never make a successful blonde. Have you seen me? That'd be like a crime against humanity and I'm pretty sure a batch of puppies would die as a result. I mean, unless pale, fake and sickly come back in style any time soon (go Calvin Klein!).

So, being a brunette (and knowing nothing of "fun" but lots about "smarts") I can't accurately review this product or even fairly react to it. Even though I, as a girl, stereotypically like pink, this particular shade is having a kryptonite effect on me, making me weak as we speak. Don't know if that's a brunette thing or not, but hey, we'll roll with it.

But then again, if someone were to replace any key on my keyboard with an emoticon, it would inspire confusion equivalent to a "blonde moment" I guess... Could that be our middle ground? Hmm...

I wonder what kind of special keys a keyboard for a brunette would include. It'd probably include a "please shut the hell up" key somewhere...

The Keyboard for Blondes is available here for $49.95.
