It's been a minute since the last Team Fortress 2 update, but Valve is yet again proving still provide some of the best post-release attention to their games. This latest update is focused on balancing out the Spy and Engineer classes. The announced changes are as follows:

  • Teleporters will be upgradeable to level 3. As the teleporter is upgraded, the cooldown will decrease.
  • Dispensers will be upgradeable to level 3. They will heal faster and generate metal faster as they are upgraded.
  • Spies will be able to recharge their cloaking ability by picking up ammo off of the ground.
  • We've made a bunch of minor changes by adding particle systems and upgrading the HUD to show things like deaths by critical hits, players that are overhealed, and giving more information to medics when people are calling for them.

Valve also noted that these class changes aren't a means of skipping over full class updates. Just minor tweaks to tide the community over. Gotta say the love for the Engi is nice, and hopefully hints at an upcoming re-tooling.

Also of HUGE IMPORTANCE - the Xbox 360 will be getting a "Massive" update, bringing it up-to-date with the current PC version. How awesome is that, consolers?

In addition, Valve announced that the Scout class is next in line for a complete overhaul. No word on specific weapons or ability upgrades are available at the moment. Crack reporter Coop seems intent on believing that the Scout won't be complete without a can of Red Bull (to continue with the edible weapons theme).
