What I Thought of District 9

Good...

Last night at 12:00 (so technically it was this morning) I saw District 9. I thought it had a good story that was somewhat believable, in a sci-fi sort of way. One thing that made me like the movie was that there were no actors that I had ever seen before playing major roles. This is what also made me like Cloverfield. If you haven't seen it yet, and you like sci-fi, you should defiantly check it out. This was probably my favorite movie of the Summer.

i saw it friday at a more reasonable time than midnight (i get tired, sue me). i liked it but it was... unsettling, which was probably the point. but i can honestly say i've never seen anything like it before, and how often do you get the chance to say that about a movie?

Yeah, this movie had a much more compelling story than I was expecting. I thought it was just going to be non-stop action, but it turns out that there is a whole lot more going on here. And the effects were done so well it was hard to tell what was CG and what was there. Good movie.

I agree, the special effects were done very well. One thing about the story that I liked was that it started off almost like a documentary of a past event.

I gave the movie an 8.5. I was a little disappointed, actually. It started out like I was hoping the movie would be: more about the race relations and tensions between humans and the aliens, shot like a documentary. But it turns into a cliche alien flick way too quickly. Documentary footage suddenly absent, more character-driven, action, etc.

I loved it. The fact that it had a documentary feel and a action feel to it was great. Also the special affects were very well done. The part that got me, and think this is what they were going for, is that after the first five minutes I didnt think of them as aliens but as refugees like so many people in that region of the world. It was a great social commentary about what is happening in that are of the world. I think the move did a great job of displaying that and then also adding the action so as not to loose the attention of the people who were there for the action.
